Some of our Customers thoughts...

'While planning a trip to Maine for this past September, my husband read about your restaurant in Down East Magazine. What a great breakfast we enjoyed when we visited. I’ve told everyone at home about you’re your Monster Hash. It will be a great to prep ahead and serve quickly to guests in the morning. . We also enjoyed scones and sweet rolls that we purchased to take with us! We’ll be back!'

About us

Co-owners Chris Cole and Caite Maynard have over 40 years combined experience in the restaurant industry. They met in 1995 at Fiddlehead Farm Café and had an immediate respect for each others talents and work ethic. Their goal from the beginning was to someday have a place of their own.

Chris earned her degree in culinary arts and restaurant management in 1990. Shortly after completing her education she started a small food processing business making sauces, dressings, and pickles using locally grown and whenever possible organic ingredients.  She was able to combine her passion for baking and breakfast cookery at Fiddlehead Farm Café where for four years she practiced the art of bread making and morning pastries.  Chris went on to create Stone Soup. Here she was able to start and run a business where all the proceeds would go directly to helping support the culinary job program that she designed for homeless and low income people.

Caite advanced her baking abilities at Fiddlehead Farm Café where she was the assistant to the head pastry chef and also had an opportunity to work with Rebecca Riley (Mad Apple Café, and Rebecca’s Kitchen). Later, she joined Chris at Stone Soup. While at Stone Soup the pair were able to craft award winning soup (Best of Portland 1999 – 2005) and four star café fare.

Chris and Caite reunited in August of 2006 when they purchased Stones Grove Restaurant and changed the name to Stones Café & Bakery. In 2007 they were featured in the Community Leader as a great new eatery. Then they were named in the top 50 places to eat in Maine by Down East Magazine and have since received a 41/2 star review in the Portland Press Herald.
